Join us!

We are always interested in meeting motivated candidates eager to explore potential opportunities within our team. Below, you can find the current positions open in our team.

In your applications, please be specific and mention why your background fits our team and what projects/questions we can explore together. Please do not forget to include your detailed CV, Google Scholar link (if published before), GitHub profile link (if interested in a computational position), and the names and contact information of your references.

Open Position 1: We are looking for a motivated candidate to join our team as a bioinformatician!

We are looking for a motivated and skilled bioinformatician to join our group. The overall responsibility of the candidate will be to establish and run computational pipelines to preprocess and integrate datasets from high-throughput experiments and perform exploratory data analysis. The candidate:

  • Will help establish and benchmark pipelines for the preprocessing and exploratory analysis of 16S amplicon sequencing, long and short-read metagenomics, RNAseq, sc-RNAseq, proteomics, and metabolomics datasets.
  • Will support research data management in the lab.
  • Will be expected to work with other computational biologists and experimentalists at the lab and institute to support collaborative projects.

Expected profile:

  • PhD in computational biology, bioinformatics, computer science, biology, or related fields (candidates without a PhD with exceptional hands-on experience can also be considered)
  • Experience in high-throughput data preprocessing and analysis
  • Experience in R, Python, and Bash
  • Experience in version control
  • Experience in workflow management systems (e.g., Nextflow, Snakemake) will be preferred
  • Experience in high throughput computing systems is advantageous

Open Position 2: PhD Opening at our Institute for International Applicants

Our institute currently has positions available with DAAD support for international PhD applicants. Multiple groups, including ours, are interested in receiving applications.

Application Deadline: May 12th, 2024

More information about the position & application form can be found here.

If you are particularly interested in joining our group, please don’t forget to submit the official application using the link above and list our group in your list of preferred groups. We are interested in receiving applications from computational biologists or candidates with a mixed wet-dry background. Submitting your files using the link above is sufficient, and the results of the initial screening will be communicated by the institute selection panel.

PhD / Postdoc positions with own funding

If you have your own funding or are interested in applying for a fellowship to join our team, please contact Melike.

We are particularly interested in postdoctoral researchers who have established experience and knowledge in wetlab but are interested in collaborating with a computational lab to develop hybrid projects. There are a few highly prestigious fellowship opportunities for such placements that would require high knowledge transfer, like MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowships (deadline: 11 September 2024), EMBO Postdoctoral Fellowships (next cutoff date: 12 July 2024), and HFSP LTF (LOI deadline 14 May 2024). Postdoctoral candidates from non-biological disciplines (e.g., mathematics, computer science, statistics) are welcome to consider HFSP CDF (LOI deadline 14 May 2024).

While most of these fellowships require mobility, there are multiple other fellowship options available in Germany, and we are happy to explore different options.

If you are excited about the possibility of running an exciting project at the intersection of aging, microbiome, and computational biology, and have some ideas, please get in touch. Please include your CV, cover letter, names and contact information of 3 references, Google Scholar link, and a brief description of the project area and why you think our group is a good environment to perform this research.
